BRATISLAV D. MILOVANOVIĆ, Full Member of Academy of Engineering Science of Serbia from 2004, President of Society for Microwave Technique, Technologies and Systems, Serbia, Full Professor at the Singidunum University, Belgrade, Serbia, was born in fhe village Rosica near Ribarska Banja, Serbia in 1948. He completed elementary school in the nearby village Ribare and secondary (technical) school in Niš. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, University of Niš in 1972 as the best student of his generation. At the same faculty he earned his M.Sc. in 1975 and Ph.D. degree in 1979. From 1972 to 1980 he was a research assistant, then an assistant trainee and teaching assistant. At the same faculty he was promoted to assistant professor in 1980, associate professor in 1985 and full professor in 1990. He founded one laboratory for students' practical exercise and two research laboratories. Professor Milovanović is the author of 5 student's textbooks. He supervised 11 Ph.D. theses, 15 M.Sc. theses, and more than 150 diploma works. From 1981 to 1984 he was head of the Chair for Theoretical Electrical Engineering. In 1989, together with the group of his associates, he joined the Chair for Telecommunication and successfully introduced new subjects and formed a Telecommunication major program. From 1994 to 2000 and again from 2004 to 2010 he was head of the Chair for Telecommunication. He was the Vice-dean of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Nis in the period from 1987 to 1991 and Dean from 1994 to 1998. From 1996 to 2001 he was the President of the Administrative Committee of Ei HOLDING Co., Nis.
He is the author of more than 450 scientific papers in telecommunications - three published in international monographs, 44 published in world-known scientific journals, 151 were presented at international conferences, 27 published in domestic journals, etc. According to the Science Citation Index, Professor Milovanović's works have been cited 44 times in the world-leading scientific journals. His paper presented at the conference EUMC'77 in Copenhagen was published in the widely-known monograph "Advanced Antenna Technology" within a group of papers that significantly influenced the development of microwave antenna technology. Professor Milovanović has been the editor of 10 international conference proceedings. He has also been a reviewer of several world-leading scientific journals and conferences and a member of the editorial boards of the international journals Facta Universitatis, series Electronics & Energetics (since its foundation in 1987) and Electronics (Republic of Srpska) and the scientific-professional magazines Microwave Review, Telekomunikacije and JISA INFO. He was also a guest-editor nine times of special issues of some international and national journals. Professor Milovanović is a founder and chairman of the high-level international IEEE conference on telecommunications - TELSIKS. As the chairman or a member of organizing or technical program committees he has given a significant contribution to the organization of a number of other scientific and professional conferences (ICEST, NEUREL, NIKOLA TESLA, TELFOR, ETRAN, YU INFO, JUŽEL, and InfoTeh-Jahorina).
Professor Milovanović has achieved outstanding results in the field of research and scientific work. He was a successful leader of the research team in the field of satellite and cable television (Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Ei EDS) and microwave technique (Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Ei IRIN) in a long-term co-operation with the Electronic Industry (Ei) Niš. Also, he was a leader of several innovation projects for the Ei-Niš and RHMZ-Belgrade. His most important research results are: the first national SATV low-noise converter and satellite receiver; the development of the specific high-performance microwave devices for Yugoslav Army; the development of the MMDS sub-devices and realization of the first experimental MMDS system in the country, and the development of a system for automation of operation of the weather radars in die system of hail protection. He supervised the realization of more than 20 projects in field of fundamental and applied research. Since 1990, he managed the strategic telecommunication projects in field of technology development and he is one of the most successful researchers in the field of electronic engineering and information technologies.
Professor Milovanović is a member of the international professional associations (IEEE, EuMA, WISAS and ARFTG), president of the Yugoslav MTT Society (since 2000), president of the YU IEEE MTT section (since 2004), vice-president of the ETRAN Society Chairmanship (since 2000) and member of the Administrative Committees of Telecommunication Society. He is the founder and he was the first president of the ETRAN Committee for Microwave, and Submillimeter Technique. He is the member of Commission on accreditation and quality evaluation of the Republic of Serbia. Since 2006 he has been vice-president of the Advisory Council of the Republic Telecommunication Agency. He has been a member of the Serbian Scientific Society since 1999, a corresponding member of the Yugoslav Engineering Academy since 2000 and full member of Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia since 2004.
He received October Prize of the City of Nis (1986), the annual prizes of Radio Television of Serbia (1985, 1994 and 1997) for the scientific achievement in the field of telecommunication, the Plaque of the Faculty (1985) and the Plaque of the University of Nis (1989) for the contributions to the development of the Faculty and University. He is the only person who was received the Plaque of the YU IEEE Society for Microwave Technique and Technology (1999). He received the great Prizes of the Faculty of Communications and Communication Technologies, Sofia and of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Banja Luka. Owing to his significant contribution to the organization and development of the ETRAN Society, he was promoted to honorary ETRAN member (2006).
