In memoriam: Prof. Dr. Bratislav Milovanović (1948-2025) September 2, 2025 Tijana Dimitrijević Post in Informations After a short and serious illness, Professor of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš, Dr. Bratislav Bata Milovanović, passed away on August 20, 2025, in Niš, at the age of 77. He was born in Rosica near Ribarska Banja on November 17, 1948 and graduated from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš in 1972 as the best student of his class. He earned his master’s degree in 1975 and his doctorate in 1979, and in 1990 he became a full professor at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš. During his distinguished career, he served as the Vice Dean of the Faculty (1987–1991), Dean (1994–1998), Head of the Department of Telecommunications (1994–2000, 2004–2012), and was also the Chair of the Board of Directors of Ei HOLDING Corporation (1996–2001). Professor Milovanović was one of the world’s leading experts in telecommunications and information technologies, leaving an immeasurable impact on the scientific community. In addition to his exceptional accomplishments, he was recognized in the academic community as the initiator of many scientific and commercial ideas, the leader of numerous research and development projects in the field of telecommunications and information technologies, the author of more than 600 scientific papers, and as a mentor to several generations of research associates and teaching staff within the Department of Telecommunications at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš. He was the founder (in 1993) and chair of the prestigious international IEEE TELSIKS conference, and one of the co-founders and co-chairs of the international ICEST conference (since 2002). He was a member of several international professional associations (IEEE, EuMA, WISAS, and ARFTG), President (since 2000) of the YU MTT (now MTTS) Society, Chair of the IEEE MTT-S Chapter (2004–2015), President and Vice President of the ETRAN Society (2005–2016), and a member of the Board of the Telecommunications Society. He was the founder and first chairman of the ETRAN Commission for Microwave and Submillimeter Technology (now the MTTS Section). For his outstanding contributions to the ETRAN Society, he was elected as a Distinguished Member (2006) and an Honorary Member (2016). He also served as a member of the Republic Commission for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education, member, vice-chair, and chair of the Expert Council of RATEL, a member of the Serbian Scientific Society since 1999, a corresponding member of the Engineering Academy of Yugoslavia since 2000, and a full member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia since 2004. He was the recipient of the October Award of the City of Niš (1986), a three-time laureate of the prestigious RTS (Radio Television of Serbia) Award (1985, 1994, and 1997) for scientific achievements in telecommunications, recipient of the Faculty Charter from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš (1985), the Plaque of the University of Niš (1989), the prestigious “Nikola Tesla” Award for scientific results in telecommunications (for 2010), the highest recognition of the national MTT association (1999), and plaques from the Faculty of Telecommunications in Sofia, the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Bitola, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Banja Luka, and the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad. He was also awarded the Plaque for his exceptional contribution to the organization of the TELSIKS conference (2023). The academic community in Serbia has suffered a great loss with his passing, and we hereby extend our condolences to the family of Professor Milovanović.
